HERO ROBBED: Taxi Scam Targets Kind Samaritan!

A simple act of kindness turned into a financial nightmare for a Hamilton resident on a recent February night. Walking home around 11 p.m., the individual was approached by a woman pleading for help with a cab fare, a request that would ultimately lead to theft and a violated sense of trust.

The woman claimed her debit card wasn’t working and the cab driver wouldn’t accept cash. Driven by a desire to assist, the resident accompanied her to a waiting vehicle, intending to pay the fare with their own card. It was a gesture of goodwill, a willingness to help a stranger in need.

The transaction seemed routine, but a subtle switch occurred. The victim received a card back that wasn’t theirs. Upon arriving home, a chilling discovery was made: unauthorized charges were already appearing on their bank account, a clear sign of deception.

This unidentified woman is sought as a suspected in a distraction theft that occurred in Hamilton on Feb. 11, 2026.

Investigators have now obtained surveillance footage showing the victim’s card being used fraudulently. The incident appears to be the work of a pair – the woman who initiated the request for help and a man believed to be the driver of the vehicle.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the female suspect. She is described as brown-skinned, between 20 and 30 years old, approximately 5’2” to 5’5” tall, weighing between 110 and 120 pounds, with a larger build and long, wavy black hair. She was last seen wearing a black puffer jacket and carrying a vape.

The male suspect is also described as brown-skinned, 20 to 30 years old, with a slim build, black hair, and a full black beard. He was reportedly wearing a grey or dark-coloured sweatsuit. The vehicle involved is a black four-door sedan.
