The definition of “support for terrorism” has also been broadened, encompassing criticism of U.S. policy regarding Israel and the Palestinian territories. This expansion of the definition has been used previously to justify visa cancellations, and is now being applied more aggressively.
More than 8,000 student visas were among those revoked, impacting international students pursuing education in the United States. This large number raises concerns about the potential chilling effect on academic exchange programs and the broader international student community.
