MASSIVE Visa Crackdown: 80,000 LOCKED OUT!

A dramatic shift in visa policy has unfolded since the beginning of the year, resulting in the revocation of tens of thousands of nonimmigrant visas. The scale of this action is unprecedented, exceeding previous years by a significant margin – over 80,000 visas have been cancelled, more than double the number revoked in the entirety of last year.

The stated justification centers on criminal activity, with authorities pointing to a surge in cases involving visa holders. Assault, theft, and driving under the influence are the most frequently cited offenses, collectively accounting for nearly half of all revocations. Over 16,000 visas were pulled due to DUI convictions alone.

However, the scope of visa cancellations extends beyond these common crimes. The government has also invoked broader definitions of national security concerns as grounds for revocation, raising questions about the criteria used to assess potential threats.

This expansion includes scrutiny of online activity and social media posts, with officials actively searching for indications of unfavorable views or potential support for entities deemed hostile. A new executive order mandates that visa holders not harbor attitudes critical of the United States or its core principles.

Applicants are now being asked to provide access to their social media accounts for government monitoring, and interviews are being conducted with a focus on identifying individuals who might pose a risk to national security. This represents a significant change in the visa application process.

The definition of “support for terrorism” has also been broadened, encompassing criticism of U.S. policy regarding Israel and the Palestinian territories. This expansion of the definition has been used previously to justify visa cancellations, and is now being applied more aggressively.

More than 8,000 student visas were among those revoked, impacting international students pursuing education in the United States. This large number raises concerns about the potential chilling effect on academic exchange programs and the broader international student community.

The administration’s actions signal a clear intent to tighten visa regulations and prioritize what it deems to be the safety and security of American citizens. The long-term consequences of these changes remain to be seen, but they represent a substantial departure from previous visa policies.
