The bill, starkly titled the “Moving American Money Distant from Anti-National Interests Act” – or the “MAMDANI Act” – aims to rescind any available federal funds during Zohran Mamdani’s tenure as mayor. The language is uncompromising, stating that no federal money could be used for any purpose within New York City.
Carter, currently campaigning for a Senate seat in Georgia, frames the move as a matter of fiscal responsibility. He argues that federal tax dollars originating from his state shouldn’t support what he perceives as a financially unsustainable path for New York City.
The Congressman didn’t mince words, suggesting that if New Yorkers desire a socialist system, they should fund it themselves, without relying on the “successful capitalist system” of other states. He even extended an invitation for those dissatisfied with New York’s direction to relocate to Georgia.
This legislative action follows Mamdani’s decisive victory in Tuesday’s mayoral election. He secured an outright majority with a platform explicitly rooted in socialist principles, a result that surprised few political analysts.
Within a day of his win, Mamdani’s administration was already actively soliciting donations from the public. A video message revealed a request for financial support to build the infrastructure needed to implement his vision for a transformed New York City.
