A 32-year-old Toronto man has been charged with assault after an autistic man was injured during an altercation last month in Etobicoke.

Toronto Police said they responded to an assault call Sept. 12 at about 4:15 p.m. in the Kipling Ave.-The Queensway area after the victim was walking on a sidewalk before a man walking a dog approached him and “engaged with him verbally.”

Police allege the suspect assaulted the victim and continued the assault after the victim fell.

On Sunday police announced that Andrew Memrik was arrested and charged with assault.

Lawyer David Costa, who is representing the 24-year-old victim, Brian Huang, told the Toronto Sun that his client had a “misunderstanding” over another man’s dog.

Costa said Huang, who was not attacked by the dog, suffered bruises on his face and body. Photos shown to the Sun pictured Huang lying in a hospital bed with bruises on his face.

According to Costa, Huang spent six hours in the hospital before being released. His glasses also were broken.
