Ruben Amorim wants Manchester United to sign a young English star in January – despite the player making a £33million transfer to a rival just a few months ago.

After a shaky start to the season, United appear to have found their rhythm, winning their last three games, including Saturday’s 4-2 victory over Brighton, to go up to sixth in the Premier League.

Key to this revival has been their summer signings, with Matheus Cunha, Senne Lammens and especially Bryan Mbeumo settling in very quickly at Old Trafford.

It is no surprise then that Amorim wants further additions when the transfer window reopens in January, with a new central midfielder top of his wish list.

The likes of Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton have been linked, but the Express report that Amorim has his eye on one player United missed out on signing last summer.

The Red Devils had long been linked with Jobe Bellingham, brother of England and Real Madrid star Jude, who helped Sunderland win promotion back to the Premier League last season.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Palace were also interested but the 20-year-old decided to follow in his brother’s footsteps instead, joining Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth up to a club record £33m.

However, while Dortmund have started the season well, losing just one game, it seems Jobe is struggling to settle in Germany, having not started a Bundesliga match since August.

He has no goals and two assists in 12 appearances across all competitions, both of which came in a Champions League win at Copenhagen.

Moreover, after being hauled off at half-time on his top-flight debut, it is said Jobe’s father, Mark Bellingham, angrily confronted Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, and tension remains between the pair.

Unsurprisingly, speculation surrounding his future at the club is beginning to grow and it is said United are monitoring the situation and could look to sign the England U21 star on loan.

It is not clear whether Jobe would be interested in a switch to Old Trafford, with the highly-rated youngster only coming on for the last five minutes of Dortmund’s 1-0 win over Koln on Saturday.

Additionally, Amorim is also reportedly keen on a loan move for former Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher after exploring a deal for the Atletico Madrid star in the last transfer window.

For now, United will be looking to make it four wins a row when they travel to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Jobe will be hoping for more game time when Dortmund take on Eintracht Frankfurt in the German cup on Tuesday.
