In the picturesque county of Cheshire, England, an area affectionately known as the Golden Triangle — comprising the affluent and historic locales of Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, and Prestbury — has long attracted attention for its luxurious homes and celebrity inhabitants.
Many of the UK’s most sought-after locations — including London, the Cotswolds and the Cornish coast — have seen prices fall in the past year or two.
But that’s not the case in the glamorous ‘footballer’s belt’. According to the latest data from the Office for National Statistics, average house prices across Cheshire East increased by an impressive 7.4% in the past year.
Yet beneath the sparkle associated with Premier League stars and high-profile residents lies a rich tapestry of community spirit, local enterprise, and cultural heritage that gives the Triangle its enduring character.
Wilmslow
At the core of the Golden Triangle is Wilmslow, a bustling market town that pulses with life and commerce.
Far from being just a backdrop to celebrity lifestyles, Wilmslow boasts a varied high street where over 75 independent businesses thrive.
One of Wilmslow’s gems is the iconic Art Deco Rex Cinema, a beloved cultural institution which partners with local dining establishments such as Wood Fire Smoke.
Boutiques and eateries like the French-inspired Petit Delice café, Naa Kin Thai’s international fare, and Jerk Junction with its Caribbean flavours — co-owned by ex-footballer Jesse Lingard — reflect the town’s diverse culinary landscape and exemplify its welcoming character.
The town’s excellent connectivity — via Wilmslow Station, offering direct trains to London and Manchester — and proximity to the M56 and Manchester Airport, make it a preferred commuter hub.
According to Rightmove, detached properties sell for an average price of £855,448 in Wilmslow, while semi-detached properties sell for an average of £493,294 and flats fetch £227,054.
Alderley Edge
Alderley Edge, meanwhile, is often spotlighted for its famous residents, including football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham.
But its story reaches far deeper, rooted in the industrial wealth of Manchester’s 19th-century cotton merchants. Today, this village retains that aura of prestige, earning the moniker ‘Champagne capital of Britain’ for its vibrant social scene and affluent residents.
The village’s main street, London Road, is a reflection of its refined yet accessible sophistication — home to acclaimed dining spots such as San Carlo and Victors, alongside charming pubs like the Drum and Monkey that evoke a sense of tradition.
The appeal of Alderley Edge is further enriched by the surrounding countryside, governed by the National Trust, where visitors can explore natural landmarks steeped in myth and legend, including tales of Merlin and his magical army.
Widely regarded as the most prestigious of the trio, Alderley Edge commands some of the highest property prices in the region.
Rightmove says that detached properties sell for an average price of £1,239,485 in the area. Semi-detached properties sell for £588,816, with flats fetching £320,605.

Prestbury
The smallest jewel in the Golden Triangle, Prestbury, emanates a distinct charm anchored in history and community values.
Its village centre — with timber-framed buildings and well-preserved landmarks such as the Grade I Listed Parish Church of St Peter and Priest’s House — draws visitors into a uniquely traditional yet vibrant atmosphere.
Prestbury also champions modern values, as seen in businesses like Dress Cheshire, a boutique that advances the sustainable fashion movement by offering pre-loved designer clothing.
Dining and social venues contribute to Prestbury’s intimate appeal, from the historic Ye Olde Admiral Rodney and the centuries-old Legh Arms pubs to The Coast, a restaurant that transports the Amalfi Coast’s flavours to Cheshire’s table.
Detached properties in Prestbury fetch an average of £965,130, according to Rightmove data, while semi-detached properties sell for an £541,600 and flats fetch an average of £487,500.
Together, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, and Prestbury form more than a mere enclave for the wealthy and famous.
Within the Golden Triangle, exclusivity is balanced with deep-rooted local pride, heritage is embraced alongside sustainability, and luxury exists hand-in-hand with everyday social vitality.
